Biography

Shriya Saran was born on 11th September 1982 to parents Pushpendra Saran and Neeraja Saran. Her father works at Bharat Heavy Metal Works and her mother is a schoolteacher and teaches chemistry. She grew up in Ranipur, a small town in north India, a few miles from the holy city of Haridwar. She is the second child to her parents and has a brother Abhiroop, who is settled in Delhi.

She did her schooling for Delhi Public School in Delhi and attended Lady Sri Ram College and got B.A (Literature) degree from there. Ever since her childhood, she was interested in dancing and she is now an accomplished Kathak dancer. She took training on classical and kathak dance from a young age under the guidance of Shobha Narayan.

After completing her academics, she concentrated in modeling and was chosen as a brand ambassador for Brookbond and Red Label Tea. Her success in modeling followed with more ad campaigns and music albums.

Career in Movies

She made her debut with the Telugu film Ishtam (2001), though the movie was not a hit at box office, she was successful in driving the attention of Telugu producers and directors. She tehn got the opportunity to act alongside Nagarjuna in the film Santosham (2002), and to her luck, that movie was a big hit, and she was appreciated for her role by critics and audiences alike. Success followed her sequentially and she appeared in other big hits like Nuvve Nuvve, Bhageerathai and another biggest hit Chatrapati opposite Prabhas.

In 2003, she made her debut in Tamil with movie Enakku 20 Unakku 18 starred opposite to Telugu and actor Tarun and Trisha Krishnan. She got many glamorous roles from Kollywood but she preferred working in Tollywood and later seen acting with the top most stars such as Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Mahesh Babu, etc.

Though she is an established actress in the south, she has also done few Bollywood films including ‘Thoda Tum Badlo Thoda Hum’ opposite Arya Babbar and the supernatural thriller ‘Shukriya’ with Aaftab Shivdasani, both of these movies went well at box office. Her film Awaarapan opposite Emraan Hashmi directed by Mohit Suri is also a big hit and gathered good response from viewers. She again makes her comeback to the Tamil movie and appears in the film Mazhai opposite Jayam Ravi which a remake of a Telugu movie. A big break she received hitherto is the much-coveted role opposite Rajinikanth in Sivaji: The Boss directed by Shankar,she got huge applause for her role in the movie and she was able to prove her talent acting opposite to megastar Rajnikant. There are many forthcoming projects lined up in Shriya’s name and in her upcoming films, she will be seen acting opposite to Vijay in Azhagiya Tamil Magan and Vikram in Kandasaamy.
